Cuyahoga County Council votes in favor of Quicken Loans Arena transformation funding

Posted

The Cuyahoga County Council voted in support of the Quicken Loans Arena transformation Tuesday night.

The $140 Million renovation has been hotly debated during council sessions. Part of the funding for the renovations will come from public funding, and Cavaliers owner, Dan Gilbert will pay for the other half.

Cavs leadership spoke with the Cleveland City Council earlier Tuesday as they began to consider their contribution to the cause which like the county - would include no new taxes but would come from the city's portions of the admission tax starting in 2024 and going through the Cavs extended lease of 2034.

Some neighborhood groups have opposed the plan and instead argued the money should be spent on communities and social services. Those in favor argued the money from taxes generated downtown by the Q goes to funding.
