Dave is still too gun shy to use his full name, after being shot at nine times by burglars.
Cleveland police say there's been a rash of break-ins in the quiet Old Brooklyn neighborhood in recent days.
Dave said he saw a white four-door Toyota back into his driveway Tuesday morning on Admiral Road.
The driver got out and knocked at his door. But he didn't want to answer.
Despite his two large dogs barking, the would-be burglars tried to enter the back door.
"I peeked around the corner and that's when they see me," Dave said.
Dave's adrenaline kicked in and he chased them down the driveway. When they got in the car, Dave smashed a block of wood through their rear window, cutting up his hands. That's when things got out of control.
"The driver leaned out of the window and fired rounds at me," he said.

Dave hid behind a tree dodging bullets that pierced his house and garage.
"If the tree wasn't in the yard, I'd be dead. I hid behind the tree and mother nature saved me,” Dave said.
Dave doesn't regret chasing the two men and one woman.
"I'd do it again tomorrow if they did it again," he said.
Cleveland police are investigating the break-ins, most happening during daylight hours.
Dave hopes the busted out window on the white Camry helps police catch the trio.
"It needs to end, everybody is on their toes, nobody can live comfortably back here no more. It's sad, it's sad. Go get a job."
Dave said he believes the burglars were 16 or 17 years old.
