A 65-year-old man who prompted a SWAT standoff Sunday after a woman was found stabbed to death in the front yard of a Cleveland home has been arrested.

Dale Peters is in police custody at MetroHealth Medical Center. Police say he has stab wounds to the face and head.

Police responded to Montrose Avenue around 8:40 a.m. for a report of a woman lying in the front yard of a home. The 65-year-old woman, Laura Fruscella, of Cleveland, had stab wounds to her throat. Fruscella was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Fruscella had a protection order against Peters, who was her ex-boyfriend.

Officers responded to Peters' address in the 14600 block of Birchwood Avenue and found him in a vehicle in the driveway.

He was holding a large kitchen knife to his neck and threatened to harm himself or officers, police said.

Crisis negotiators and SWAT responded. After several hours, the man exited the vehicle and began to stab himself.

He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police did not say what charges the man faces.

The homicide unit is investigating.
