Officials have filed charges against a man accused of the rape and murder of a 13-month-old child in Conneaut last Saturday.
Authorities said they filed the charges against 37-year-old Joshua Gurto, the boyfriend of the child's mother.
An arrest warrant was issued for Gurto. Police said he fled the area and has not been located.
On Oct. 7, EMS was called to an apartment in the 500 block of Clark Street around 5:16 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive child.
When Conneaut police arrived, the mother was holding the child and screaming, "help my baby."
According to the coroner's office, the 13-month-old child — Sereniti Sutley — was rushed to University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said a preliminary autopsy showed the child suffered blunt force trauma to the head and body.
