Cleveland authorities were on scene early Monday morning for a possible underground electrical explosion after a manhole cover popped off.

Cleveland fire and police, along with Cleveland Public Power, responded to East 12th Street and Superior Avenue.

The manhole cover popped off and the street lights on the block were out. Authorities closed the right westbound lane of Superior Avenue as crews worked to resolve the issue.

Last week,  manhole covers exploded in several locations around Public Square when a fire was caused by a single wire that failed, according to Mark Durbin, a spokesperson for FirstEnergy Illuminating Company.
