Lakewood police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred near downtown on Sunday.

According to a police report, a 19-year-old woman and her 25-year-old friend were sitting in their car shortly before 5 a.m., on the 1430 block of Westwood Avenue on Sept. 17, when two men approached her car and opened the door.

One of the suspects pointed a gun, threatened to shoot her and then took her purse, police said.

The two men climbed into a silver mini-van and fled towards Madison Avenue.  The report states two other men were inside the van at the time of the robbery but they never exited the vehicle.

The incident is under investigation.
