Cedar Point visitors will notice some changes before ever entering the Sandusky amusement park starting this season.
New awnings will house metal detectors just outside the front gate.
"We are installing metal detectors as part of the ongoing evolution of our security practices. This screening process is just one element of a multi-layer security program which is developed in coordination with local authorities," said Cedar Point spokesperson Tony Clark.
Cedar Point follows many other amusement parks, including Disney, which now require guests to walk through metal detectors before entering.
Clark also said through an email, "We won't be able to discuss our security measures at this time."
"People visiting or participating in an event are not asking for better security," said Timothy Dimoff, CEO SACS Consulting and Investigative Services.
Cedar Point opens for the season on May 6, 2017.
