A fire at a mixed-use building on 700 Broadway Avenue and Seventh Street displaced around 20 people Sunday morning, according to Lorain Assistant Fire Chief, Gary Bruls.

When crews arrived around 12:33 a.m., two people were hanging out of the building's windows. Crews quickly rescued them with ladders.

Firefighters entered the building but were forced to go back outside after the second floor of the building started to collapse.

The roof and the second floor collapsed into the first floor of the building.

A nearby apartment building was evacuated as a precaution.

The Lorain Fire Department reported no injuries.

Nearly 12 hours later, fire crews are still putting out hot spots.

Fire crews are working closely with the Red Cross to find the displaced residents shelter and clothing.

The Lorain County Auditor's Office valued the building at around $170,000.

The area around the building will remain shut down until the Lorain County Engineering Office determines if the building will be demolished.

The Lorain Fire Marshall and the State Fire Marshall are investigating the cause of the fire.
