Body found in burning car in Chatham Township, authorities investigating

CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A dead body was found inside a burning car in Chatham Township on Tuesday morning.

At about 9 a.m., the Medina County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call for black smoke coming from an oil access road located off Garver Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Chatham Township Fire Department and deputies were dispatched to the location and found a vehicle fully engulfed in fire, officials said. Once the fire was out, fire personnel and deputies found a body inside the vehicle.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Medina County Coroner’s Office are working jointly to determine the identity of the body found, as well as the cause of death.

The body was sent to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death, officials said.

The matter is under investigation and no further details are available at this time.
