Two people were killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Copley Township Thursday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a man was operating a 2002 Suzuki GSX motorcycle with a woman passenger heading south on Collier Road as a 56-year-old woman was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento eastbound on Knox Boulevard.

The woman driving the SUV was stopped at the intersection of Knox Blvd and Collier Road, trying to make a right hand turn onto Collier, when her vehicle was hit by the motorcycle, according to the Canton Post of Highway Patrol.

Authorities say both people on the motorcycle were ejected onto the road. The man operating the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was wearing a helmet and was taken to Akron General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Investigators say the motorcycle's speed appears to be a factor in the crash.

The victims were later identified as 31-year-old Michael Davis of Barberton and 32-year-old Brandi Waggoner.
