CLEVELAND — A woman who moved back to Hinckley six years ago to take care of her 90-year-old mother is the lucky winner of the “Home for the Holidays” home giveaway.
A day before the New Year’s Eve drawing, Deborah Rascan decided to buy three $50 raffle tickets, hoping to win a Strongsville home worth $495,000 or a cash prize.
“This is like a dream come true,” said Rascan, who suffers from a bad back, causing her to step up a home hospice last march.
Her bills from taking care of her mother started to pile up, so when she found out she won, she took the cash option.
“This will certainly help, giving me a chance to save some money and possibly do a little something for myself,” said Rascan.
One of the first items she wants to treat herself with is a TV.
“I really want to get a big screen Smart TV to watch football. I love the Cleveland Browns and want to see them in the Superbowl.”
Throughout the campaign, $677,750 was raised, with 100% of net proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish; The Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana (OKI) Make- A-Wish Chapter.
“We’re so grateful to the Home Builders Association of Greater Cleveland and News 5 for helping make the Home for the Holidays raffle such a huge success,” said Make-A-Wish OKI President and CEO Stephanie McCormick. “Thanks to them and the generosity of everyone who bought a ticket, we’ll be able to grant nearly 20 wishes for local children with critical illnesses.”
News 5 was a proud sponsor of the giveaway.
