CLEVELAND — Make that four! Indians pitcher Shane Bieber was named to the American League All-Star Team on Friday evening and will now participate in the 2019 MLB All-Star Game, according to the team.
Bieber was named a replacement for Texas Rangers pitcher Mike Minor.
With his addition to the All-Star Game, Bieber joins three other Indians players who were previously named to the All-Star Team. Pitcher Brad Hand, shortstop Francisco Lindor and first baseman Carlos Santana are all representing the Tribe in Tuesday’s game at Progressive Field.
Bieber joins the All-Star team after posting a record of 7-3 with a 3.54 ERA in 17 starts. He ranks among the top 10 American League pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings pitched, strikeouts and walks per nine innings pitched.
Bieber is the youngest Indians starting pitcher to make the All-Star team since CC Sabathia in 2004.
The 90th annual Midsummer Classic MLB All-Star Game will wrap up All-Star Week in Cleveland. The game will take place at Progressive Field on July 9 at 8 p.m.
