This local woman's Thanksgiving means something extra special

On Christmas Eve, 2016, Lydia Castro’s life changed. A house fire devoured everything she owned.

“That day, I went to sleep with my granddaughter,” said Castro. “When I awoke it was all over; fire around the house. We were trying to escape through the window.”

Lydia made it out, but her granddaughter did not.

“She went away to a wrong place,” said Castro. “We miss her. After that day, I’m not the same person. I know something is missing in my family.”

Just days before Thanksgiving, OhioGuidestone gifted Castro with a dining room table. A donation that would allow her to host dinner for the holiday.

“It’s a place that we are being together,” said Castro. “We pray and give God thanks.”
