CLEVELAND — Since being named the “Chosen One” on the cover of Sports Illustrated exactly 18 years ago Tuesday, LeBron James can add children’s book author to his long list of accolades, which include four league MVP titles, two Olympic gold medals and three NBA championships.

James is set to debut his picture book “I PROMISE,” inspired by the values and initiatives of his foundation’s I PROMISE program in Akron.

“Books have the ability to teach, inspire, and bring people together. That’s why these books, and the opportunity to get children and parents reading together, mean so much to me,” said LeBron James in a news release. “Most importantly, we wanted to make sure these stories are ones that every single kid can see themselves in. I PROMISE is powerful in that way and I can’t wait for people to read it.”

The book is illustrated by New York Times Best Selling Artist Nina Mata. The book will be released on Aug. 11, followed by a middle-grade novel the following year.

“LeBron James is a positive role model for kids, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to publish such an inspiring book,” said Luana Horry, Editor, HarperCollins Children’s Books, in a news release. “It’s been such a pleasure working on I PROMISE, and James’s words have motivated us all to be the best versions of ourselves.”
