Two northeast Ohio stores are among 40 Macy's stores to be closed this year, the company announced Thursday.
Macy's at Chapel Hill Mall in Akron and Macy's at Midway Mall in Elyria will close in early spring, the company said.
The Chapel Hill store employs 91 associates and the Midway location employs 64 associates.
The company said that it will offer associates at the closing stores jobs at nearby stores, if possible, and provide severance.
The company is committed to treating associates affected by store closings with respect and openness. Associates displaced by store closings may be offered positions in nearby stores where possible. Eligible full-time and part-time associates who are laid off due to the store closings will be offered severance benefits.
The move is intended to save the company $400 million. Final clearance sales at these stores will begin Jan 11.
