COLUMBUS, Ohio — This coming Saturday, two pandemic unemployment program will end across Ohio and the nation.

As of July 31, more than 200,000 Ohioans were receiving Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits and more than 85,000 Ohions were receiving Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits (PEUC).

While the two programs expire this weekend, pending benefit applications and appeals for the weeks before Sept. 4 will still be processed and considered, according to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Both PEUC and PUA applications will still be accepted through Oct. 2, but only for people who were unemployed prior to the expiration date of Sept. 4. Residents in those circumstances will need to call the PUA Call Center at 1-877-644-6562 for assistance, the state said.

According to ODJFS, PUA supported, "self-employed individuals, independent contractors, and others who don’t qualify for traditional unemployment benefits." And PEUC provided "additional weeks of traditional unemployment benefits for those who remain unemployed after exhausting their benefits."
