CLEVELAND — A local manufacturer is working around the clock to hep fight COVID-19. State Industrial Products makes commercial cleaners certified by the EPA to be effective against coronavirus.
The company has been around for more than 100 years, but vice president of marketing, Keith Lewis, said they have never been so busy.
“We’ve been classified as an essential business by the Department of Homeland Security,” said Lewis. “This allows our associates to continue to support hospitals, first responders, and other essential businesses.”
The company is headquartered in Mayfield, but the manufacturing plant is in Hebron, Ohio.
While associates are working from home, the plant is still going full speed. Lewis said they’re working 24/7 to produce the needed disinfectants and keep up with demand, which Lewis said has increased twentyfold.
“As you can imagine, we’ve seen a tremendous spike in demand. With these products, there has been, now, a shortage for many suppliers. However, because we manufacture these ourselves, we're able to maintain production,” he said.
Lewis said they’re also implementing new protocols at the plant to make sure their own workers stay healthy.
“We're following their (CDC) guidelines for cleaning. Washing hands, social distancing,” he said. “We're not accepting visitors or contractors into the building and we're also beginning to implement taking employee temperatures as they come to the door for work.”
Lewis said while they make commercial grade products and sell them to businesses, hospitals and manufacturers throughout the world. There’s some tips that even the every day consumer can follow to get a thorough clean at home. It starts with making sure there’s a kill claim for coronavirus.
“They should be looking at the kill claims on the label. They should also be looking at the manufacturer’s provided safety data sheet, and the manufacturer should provide information around the kill claims for their products,” he said.
