MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — As social distancing becomes the new norm for the foreseeable future, the way we celebrate important events will have to change. A Maple Heights family is already figuring that out and making sure a mother’s birthday isn’t forgotten.
Christopher Parnell lives across the street from his mother Evangeline on Anthony Street.
Christopher wanted to do something special for his mother’s 79th birthday, but his options were limited.
“I wanted to give her some smiles and laughs since we can’t go out to dinner,” Christopher said.
So, Christopher got creative and ordered yard signage from Sign Gypsies Cleveland to wish his mom a happy birthday and remind the community to practice social distancing.
The yard was festively decorated with signs that read “Happy Birthday Mom," “Stay in the house COVID 19,” and “Best Mom Ever.”
Christopher snapped a picture of his mom with the decorations—making sure he stayed a safe distance away.
Christopher said he and his mom have taken the social distancing advice seriously to make sure she stays healthy, keeping their distance while still remaining social.
“I go look through the window and make sure she’s alright,” Christopher said.
While Evangeline might not have gotten the birthday celebration she expected, Christopher made sure it was still one to remember and already has plans to celebrate once things go back to normal.
“After the COVID-19 passes, we’ll go out, maybe take a trip, go out to dinner,” Christopher said.
