PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — Orange High School has made the decision to opt-out of the playoff game against Lake Catholic High School following a Lake Catholic player testing positive for COVID-19.

The school said it decided to opt-out based on the information about the Lake Catholic student who tested positive and those who came into contact with the player, choosing to “err on the side of caution.”

Orange High School said it did not feel comfortable with less than 5% of Lake Catholic’s players quarantined out of their roster of 60 and attempted to work towards a resolution that would have postponed the game until Oct. 13—meeting the required 14-day quarantine for Lake Catholic’s players—but the Ohio High School Athletic Association denied the request.

The two schools were originally scheduled to play Saturday, Oct. 10.

Lake Catholic will now go on to play Canton South on Oct. 17.
