SOLON, Ohio — The City of Solon has canceled all special events for the remainder of the year, including Independence Day Fireworks on July 2 and Solon Home Days, which was scheduled for July 24-26.
Mayor Edward Kraus said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We were looking forward to celebrating our bicentennial with family, friends, neighbors and community members, but it is just not possible under the current situation," he said. “Having large events would put the Solon community at risk, and we have to do what is right to stay safe and to continue to follow the recommended social distancing guidelines and group gathering limitations.”
Other canceled events include the Memorial Day celebration scheduled for May 25, all remaining bicentennial events and the Fall Festival scheduled for October 17.
“In an effort to minimize the budget implications, it is important to make this decision in a timely manner. Months of planning and preparation go into each of these events. Although we are all disappointed, the cancelation of these events will help offset potential budget cuts the City may face,” the city said in a statement.
