NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — The annual Corn Festival in North Ridgeville has been canceled due to concerns regarding coronavirus.
"While we recognize and appreciate Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's recent guidance to allow similar festival-style events and fairs in Ohio starting in June, we feel it important to maintain our caution for the safety of our community," event organizers said.
The event has been a community staple for 45 years. The Corn Festival draws thousands of people from all over Northeast Ohio and takes months of planning and work to put together. Since it's not known what the COVID-19 situation will be like in Ohio in the summer, event organizers said waiting until closer to when the event was scheduled to make a decision would not give them enough time to safely put it together.
"Everyone is deeply disappointed with the cancellation of the festival, as the festival has been the highlight of the summer in the city of North Ridgeville for 45 years. We know that families and businesses plan their attendance at the festival months in advance, and we wanted to get our decision out as early as possible to help with the planning," event organizers said.
The next Corn Festival is scheduled to happen Aug. 12 to 14, 2022.
