SOLON, Ohio — Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8, Solon City Schools will require masks for grades 7 through 12 after more than a dozen students and four staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

School officials made the announcement Friday after it was reported that 51 students were asked to quarantine since Aug. 30.

The district said without the modified state quarantine guidelines from the end of last year that are still in effect, the number of students who would have to quarantine would be “dramatically higher.”

“We also need to take into account that we are heading into a four-day weekend with anticipated gatherings for Labor Day and Rosh Hashana. Our experience from last year demonstrated increased case numbers following long holiday weekends. We are anticipating a similar spike this year, although we hope that is not the case.”

The district said masks are now required indoors at all Solon Schools.
