CLEVELAND — Frank Q. Jackson, the grandson of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, has a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly hitting his girlfriend in the face during an argument in December 2020.
Jackson is charged with domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
The warrant was filed following the announcement earlier this month that a special prosecutor will review the case.
At around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2020, Cleveland police officers to a home in the 2100 block of East 39th Street for a domestic disturbance call.
The 21-year-old victim, identified as the girlfriend of Jackson, told officers an argument over diapers escalated, Jackson allegedly hit her in the face and head several times, according to the Cleveland police report.
The victim said she asked Jackson to get a diaper for her so she could change their 10-month-old child’s diaper. When he returned with one diaper, she said she got upset with him as she would “eventually need more diapers for their child and was confused as why he only brought one.”
Jackson allegedly hit her “possibly two to three times” in the head and face, the report states. Officers said a lump on the woman’s forehead was visible, according to the report.
Jackson told police that the argument was the result of his girlfriend being upset that he did not give her money to get her nails done. Jackson declined to provide additional details but said it was “not a physical argument,” the report states.
The mayor’s grandson has been in and out of the news. At the beginning of 2020, he accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in exchange for prosecutors dropping felonious assault and abduction charges.
The Cleveland Municipal Court said no court date has been set for Jackson yet.
Jackson's attorney told 5 On Your Side Investigators his client plans to self-surrender to authorities and will plead not guilty to the domestic violence charge.
