CLEVELAND — Buildings across Northeast Ohio went blue on Friday just hours ahead of the funeral for fallen Cleveland Police Detective James Skernivitz.
Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, where the service will be held, lit up blue to honor the fallen detective.
Progressive Field and The Terminal Tower were among the other landmarks that went blue to honor and remember Skernivitz who leaves behind a wife and three children.
Skernivitz, 53, was shot and killed around 10 p.m. in the 3200 block of West 65th Street on Sept. 3. Another person, later identified as Scott Dingess, 50, was also killed. Police said Dingess was a victim of the shooting and not a suspect.
The funeral service at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse is a private event and open only to family, friends, colleagues and invited guests. On Thursday, a visitation was held for Skernivitz.
