More than a billion dollars! That's how much you could win if you hit the Mega Millions lottery tonight. So, how can you increase your odds of winning?
"Would you like to try buying the Mega Million?" asked the clerk Krisey Olszewski at the One Stop Sunoco on Storer Avenue on Cleveland’s west side. It's the question of the day.
"How could you not buy a ticket?" asked Roberta Reese, who has her tickets. "Fingers crossed."
But it's going to take a bit more than crossing fingers to win. Odds are 300 million to 1 for all that Mega money.
There's a book called Learn How to Increase Your Chances of Winning the Lottery that says you should play the same numbers every drawing, but if you do get random numbers then buy them in a row and from the same machine.
And never buy fewer than 10 tickets. Reese knows that tip very well. "I'm in a pool at work also and I bought some of my own private tickets,” she told us.
If you can't get to a store, the Ohio Lottery has set up a Text to Play lotto app. The lottery card that you can buy at various stores syncs with your PayPal account. Just text your card's code.
At the Sunoco, where we recently highlighted it as one of the luckiest stores for big scratch-off wins, the Mega dreams are flying around. "[Customers] can leave their job and buy houses and cars," said Olszewski.
And the advice is flying, too, from Reese. “Play. You can't win if you don't play."
Mathematicians say the simplest way to increase your odds is to buy more tickets just don't overspend beyond your budget.
