If you've driven along Interstate 480 lately, you may have noticed hundreds of trees are being removed in the Brooklyn area.
News 5 reached out to the Ohio Department of Transportation to find out what's going on.
Officials said they're erecting a sound barrier along the stretch of I-480 between Ridge and Tiedeman roads.
The reason?
Neighbor complaints have been coming in for years.
ODOT recently performed a noise analysis to determine if a wall would help and the study came back, saying it would be beneficial.
But what about those trees what were cut down?
There's no law that says they have to be replaced but ODOT does plan to replant trees in other parts of the city.
"We're going to be planting close to 400 hundred trees on the north side of 480 there also as part of this project," said spokesperson Amanda McFarland. "So while we won't be replanting any of the trees in that areas where they've been recently taken down, we will be planting some in that area on 480"
When the project is done in the fall, the barriers will be placed along both the east and westbound lanes.
ODOT received federal funding for the project.
