AMHERST, Ohio — No injuries were reported after 10 rail cars on a Norfolk Southern train derailed near Amherst, Ohio at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, according to an initial response from a Norfolk Southern Corporation representative.
Norfolk Southern personnel are en route to assess the site and coordinate cleanup and recovery efforts, said Rachel Bradshaw, the company’s media relations manager.
The mixed-freight train was traveling east from Elkhart, Indiana, to Binghamton, New York when the incident occurred. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, Bradshaw said.
