$2,500 reward offered for arrest, conviction of person who fatally shot 8-year-old girl in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A $2,500 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of an 8-year-girl who was shot last week in Akron.

Just before midnight on Aug. 14, someone opened fire at a home in the 700 block of Roselle Avenue where a birthday party was taking place.

The girl, later identified as Mikayla Pickett, was hit by gunfire. Mikayla was transported to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, authorities said.

A second juvenile was also injured in the shooting. No additional information has been released about that person.

The reward is being offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
