AVON LAKE, Ohio — Avon Lake police are investigating a hit skip after a 32-year-old man riding a motorized bicycle was hit by a vehicle.
According to police, the incident happened around 2:12 a.m. near Electric Boulevard and Beachwood Avenue.
Authorities said that the 32-year-old man was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a Mercury Mountaineer. After striking the man, the vehicle fled the scene.
The bicyclist called a friend to pick him up and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.
About an hour later, an 18-year-old man was arrested by members of the Sheffield Village Police Department for driving while intoxicated. Damage on the man’s vehicle was consistent with having hit a person, authorities said. SVPD contacted Avon Lake police since the 18-year-old is a resident in their city.
The 18-year-old’s identity has not been released. Charges have not been announced.
The matter remains under investigation.
