AKRON, Ohio — A 14-year-old boy has been charged for allegedly assaulting a car lot owner during a test drive and then stealing the car, according to the Akron Police Department.
The teen is charged with robbery, grand theft auto and receiving stolen property, police said.
It happened Wednesday around 3:20 p.m.
Authorities say a local car dealership’s owner went with a male, who was later identified as the 14-year-old, for a test drive in a Pontiac G6. Police didn’t say if the owner was aware of the teen's age.
During the test drive, the driver stopped in the 500 block of McKinley Street and picked up two female teens. He continued on at a high rate up speed and then stopped. That’s when police say that the car lot owner got out of the vehicle, and the driver and the two females attacked him. Moments later, the trio got back in the car and drove off.
Later at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police located the stolen vehicle near Grant and East Thornton streets and pulled it over. The teen was taken into custody and transported to the Summit County Jail where he is currently being held.
The two females, who police said are believed to be around 17 years old, weren’t located.
Police ask that anyone with information about the case is call detectives at 330-375-2490 or CrimeStoppers at 330-434-COPS.
