15-year-old boy identified as victim shot to death in broad daylight on Seward Avenue in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A 15-year-old boy has been identified as the victim in a deadly shooting on Seward Avenue in Akron Wednesday.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Ronald Willis Jr., 15, of Akron, whose cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. His death has been ruled a homicide.

His body was found outside a duplex on Wednesday at around 4:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Seward Avenue. He was transported to the hospital where he died at around 5:20 p.m, authorities said.

Neighbors were left rattled by the murder in broad daylight. At the time of the shooting, police were working to identify the victim.

There have been 41 murders in Akron in 2020 which is the highest number in at least 10 years, according to police records.
