AKRON, Ohio — Akron police arrested a 16-year-old Wednesday night after officers said they witnessed a drug deal and then conducted a traffic stop and found drugs, cash and a gun.
The teen is charged with trafficking in drugs, carrying concealed weapons, improperly handling firearms in a vehicle, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to police.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. near Newton and Pioneer streets.
Authorities said the teen was spotted making a “drug transaction” and then committing “multiple traffic offenses.”
When officers approached the vehicle, the 16-year-old, who was the only person in the vehicle, told them he didn’t have a driver’s license. A search of the car turned up a loaded gun under the front seat, and $600 in cash. Police said they also found 173 grams (6.1 ounces) of marijuana in the car and a digital scale.
Following the arrest, the teen was taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
