CLEVELAND — A 19-year-old woman who has been charged in the stabbing death of her mother at an Akron home Tuesday afternoon appeared in court Thursday for her arraignment.
Sydney Powell, 19, of Akron, has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed her mother, 50-year-old Brenda Powell.
The judge set her bond at $250,000 with the maximum pre-trial supervision and a pysch evaluation.
Authorities said they responded to the 1900 block of Scudder Drive near White Pond Drive after receiving a phone call about a possible struggle inside the home. When officers arrived, they found two women who had knife wounds.
Police said Sydney Powell assaulted her mother during an argument.
Brenda was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where she later died, police said. According to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, she died from multiple sharp and blunt force injuries.
Sydney was also taken with minor injuries to the hospital.
Brenda Powell was a child life specialist for 28 years at the Akron Children's Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.
