AKRON, Ohio — Two Akron Public Schools board members who originally voted against allowing fall sports to move forward say they plan to change their votes, according to News 5 media partner at Ohio.com.
The board has already taken two votes on whether fall sports should be played. The first vote was on Aug. 10 and the second vote came a week later.
Both times the board members voted in favor of not having fall sports this semester, but a petition with more than 2,000 signatures on it got those board members to change their minds.
Board President Patrick Bravo is working to schedule a special meeting for Monday. If other board members were to stand by their votes, the two changes would be enough for students to play fall sports.
Akron has had three positive COVID-19 cases in athletes thus summer, all were on different teams.
The district does not have the capability to test students so they will likely rely on parents to make that decision.
Other districts in Summit County are moving forward with fall sports, including football season, which starts Friday.
