2 shot while attending homicide victim's vigil in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — Two people were shot in Akron on Thursday evening while attending a vigil for a person who was killed earlier this week.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. near Fernwood Drive and Hoye Avenue. That’s the location where 23-year-old Willquian Jews was fatally shot on Wednesday, according to police.

The two men who were shot at the vigil drove themselves to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their injuries weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw around 100 people fleeing the area. No additional injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
