COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 25-year-old man from Coventry Township was arrested Saturday after a standoff with authorities, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Around 6:20 a.m., deputies were called to Lake Vista Road in Coventry Township for reports of a disturbance and upon their arrival, Andrew Scovern, 25, grabbed a woman and held her at gunpoint.

The woman convinced Scovern to release her and was able to take her children into a bedroom to hide from Scovern, deputies said.

Another female at the residence was able to escape out of the front door while deputies managed to get the woman and her children out of the home through a bedroom window, according to deputies.

Scovern then barricaded himself in the home, prompting the Summit County Sheriff’s SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Team to respond to the scene.

After several hours Scovern ended the standoff and exited the home, with deputies then taking him into custody without further incident.

Scovern was arrested and charged with kidnapping, having weapons under disability and inducing panic.
