26-year-old man arrested in connection with Canton Township shooting

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on Thursday in Canton Township, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

Tony Sheets Jr. was arrested on charges stemming from a shooting that occurred at his home in the 1100 block of Oak Avenue, deputies said.

Deputies responded to the home around 3:48 a.m. in reference to a shooting.

Deputies located a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported by the Canton Township Fire Department where she was being treated for her injury. The extent of her injury is unknown at this time.

In cooperation with the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, Sheets was arrested on Friday.

Sheets was charged with one count of felonious assault and one count of having weapons under disability.
