AKRON, Ohio — A 29-year-old man was arrested following a domestic dispute where he allegedly held a woman in her home against her will, according to the Akron Police Department.
Just after 4:30 a.m. early Saturday morning, officers were called to East Dalton Street after being notified by the Ohio State Highway Patrol to conduct a welfare check on a woman in the home, police said.
Offices had responded to the home an hour earlier but it was quiet and there was no response at the door, according to police.
When officers arrived for a second check after receiving the notification from OHSP, they knocked on the door for several minutes before a woman exited the home, visibly distraught, police said.
The woman told officers that a man she has a child with came to her home Friday evening despite having a protection order prohibiting him from doing so, according to police.
During the several hours from when the man arrived at the home to when officers arrived, the woman reported being assaulted and being prevented from leaving. She had visible injuries that were considered minor, police said.
While being held in the house against her will, the woman sent multiple texts to friends, one of whom was stopped on the highway by troopers while reportedly rushing to the home on East Dalton Street, according to police.
The man was arrested and charged with domestic violence, domestic violence menacing and violation of a protection order.
The incident is under investigation and more charges are likely, police said.
