AKRON, Ohio — A 32-year-old man was arrested following a SWAT standoff in Akron Saturday afternoon, according to the Akron Police Department.

Around 1:30 p.m., officers were called to the 800 block of Baird Street after a woman called and said two men were inside her home with guns.

Once on scene, officers found Willie Palm Jr., 32, barricaded inside the home and he refused to come out, police said.

Palm was wanted on an active felony warrant for a robbery in January, according to police.

The Akron SWAT Team was called to the scene and were able to get several people who were inside the home out, but Palm refused to surrender, police said.

Over the span of several hours, officers worked to deescalate the situation and Palm was eventually taken into custody by members of the SWAT Team when he tried escaping from the house, according to police.

Palm was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the January incident, police said.

There were no injuries reported in the standoff Saturday afternoon.
