AKRON, Ohio — A 35-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision on East Avenue in Akron on Wednesday morning.

Akron police said at around 1:10 a.m., a 2013 Dodge Durango, driven by a 28-year-old male, was traveling eastbound on East Avenue towards Nordica Avenue, when he went left of the center and struck a Jeep Compass head-on.

The 35-year-old woman, identified as the driver of the Jeep, was killed instantly, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Durango and a passenger, a 33-year-old man, had minor injuries from the crash.

Police said alcohol does appear to be a factor. The 35-year-old was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. However, investigators do not believe it would have minimized her injuries.

The driver’s identity is being withheld pending positive identification and family notifications.

The crash remains under investigation.
