4-year-old child riding bicycle struck by car in Canton Township

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 4-year-old child was injured Friday evening when they were hit by a car in Canton Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 7:38 p.m. on 49th Street near Wiseland Avenue.

Authorities say that a 57-year-old man from Canton was heading eastbound on 49th Street in a 2005 Buick Rendezvous when the child, who was playing in a driveway on a bicycle, rode out onto the street in front of him and was struck.

The child sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

The Buick’s driver was not injured in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
