AKRON, Ohio — Summit County artists who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic can apply for grants through a $50,000 relief fund.
The money was granted to ArtsNow from GAR Foundation.
The fund will award $500 or $1,000 grants to artists needing work-related supplies, rent for studio or home, equipment, software, housing, childcare or food.
To be eligible, artists must demonstrate a sustained commitment to their work and a public audience.
In addition, the artists must have a loss of income or unexpected expenses directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Artists may work in the following disciplines:
- Dance
- Design
- Film
- Fine craft
- Music
- Theater and performance
- Visual art
- Writing
As of Friday morning, more than 100 artists had applied.
Applications will be accepted through Jan. 28 through midnight.
"The personal and professional toll the pandemic continues to have on the creative sector is substantial," said Kendra Williams, ArtNow board chair. "The generosity of GAR Foundation is a critical investment to help navigate the ongoing recovery in our industry and to ensure the arts are here to support the community we love in the days ahead."
ArtsNow is also accepting donations from the public to add to the fund.
