COPLEY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a 58-year-old woman died in a crash in Copley Township Sunday evening.
The crash happened at 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Jacoby and Wright roads.
The driver, identified as Gwendolyn Wheeler, 58, of Akron, was operating a Kia Soul, when she failed to stop at a stop sign, continuing through the intersection and into some trees, according to state troopers.
She was transported by the Copley Township Fire Department to Akron General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Troopers on scene said Wheeler was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, according to a release.
The crash remains under investigation.
