AKRON, Ohio — A 64-year-old Akron man was arrested after police seized 16 vehicles that were reported stolen or had tampered VINs at various chop shop locations in Summit County, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark A. Manning, 64, of Akron, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and purpose to conceal or destroy vehicle identification number (VIN), both felony charges.

On Aug. 11, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Manning for a traffic violation. The vehicle was a 2011 Ford F-350 with a 2006 VIN.

Further investigation revealed the VIN was altered and the vehicle was reported stolen out of Norton.

Sixteen vehicles were seized during search warrants at multiple locations in Akron and Green. The sheriff's office said Manning owned the businesses that were searched.

Manning was booked into the Summit County Jail.
