Akron detective finds replacement after laptop stolen from paraplegic, speech-impaired veteran

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are searching for the person who stole a laptop from a disabled veteran while also paying it forward.

On November 12, a 30-year-old man believed to be named Jeremy stole a laptop from an apartment in the 900 block of East Market Street, police said.

The laptop belonged to a disabled veteran who relied on the laptop as his source of communication and entertainment. He is paraplegic and speech-impaired, according to police.

During the investigation, Akron police detective Ken Dies was able to get a new laptop donated to the veteran.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the man named Jeremy or the incident is asked to call police at 330-375-2464, the Tip Line at 33-375-2TIP, or Summit County Crimestoppers Inc. at 330-434-2677.
