Akron man facing felony charges stemming from road rage incident on I-77

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — An Akron man was arrested after he allegedly shot and threw an object at a car during a road rage incident on I-77 on Jan. 28, police said.

Daymond L. Hooks Sr., 34, of Akron, was charged with having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony, carrying concealed weapons, a fourth-degree felony, vehicular vandalism, a fourth-degree felony, and endangering children, a first-degree misdemeanor.

On Jan. 28 at around 9:45 p.m., deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a road rage incident on I-77 at mile marker 120. Police were told that Hooks may have shot and thrown an object at someone’s vehicle.

Deputies stopped Hooks, who was traveling with a female and a 1-year-old passenger at the time. A loaded 9mm handgun was found inside his vehicle, police said.

Hooks was transported to the Summit County Jail.
