AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for having sex with an underage teen.
In September of 2015, an Akron mother reported that her daughter was missing.
Investigators determined the teen ran away with then 44-year-old Donovan Conley.
According to court documents, Conley met the teen through the app "Whisper" and then Facebook.
The pair engaged in a sexual relationship, according to court documents.
Conley was arrested in 2015 and released on bond.
According to court documents, he eluded police since then and was eventually arrested in January 2019.
Conley was found guilty of four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material.
“I’m pleased knowing Conley will spend a significant amount of time in prison. The community is safer with him locked up,” said Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. “I hope this case serves as a warning to parents and guardians to keep an eye on what your children are doing online. Sexual predators are lurking behind these profiles, waiting to groom children into these types of situations. People may not realize the dangers of using apps like Whisper, TikTok, Snapchat, KIk, ASK.FM, and even Facebook.”
