Akron police arrest 26-year-old man in homicide of 27-year-old woman

AKRON, Ohio — A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection to a January shooting that killed a 27-year-old woman.

Tyree Omenai, 26, of Akron, was arrested Monday night in the area of Eastland and Johnland avenues for the death of Tiffany Rhea, 27, of Akron, who died from a gunshot wound to her torso. Omenai was booked into Summit County and charged with murder and aggravated robbery.

During the investigation, detectives developed information that linked Omenai to Rhea’s death.

The shooting happened on Jan. 22 at 4:15 p.m. in the area of Eastland and Bethany avenues.

Police said the victim was a passenger in a vehicle, when she exited the car and engaged in a verbal altercation with Omenai.

Omenai allegedly brandished a handgun and fired an unknown amount of shots, striking Rhea, according to police.
