AKRON, Ohio — A Bolivar, Ohio man was arrested early Wednesday morning following a short pursuit in Akron.
Gabriel Witham, 38, is charged with willful fleeing, receiving stolen property and having weapons under disability.
The incident happened just after midnight in the 500 block of West Thornton Street. According to authorities, officers checked the registration of a 2000 Honda Accord that was spotted pulling out from the parking lot of a closed business and it came back as a stolen vehicle.
Police said they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the car fled the scene. While chasing the car, officers saw the driver, later identified as Witham, throw a white object out of the window.
The chase ended when Witham turned down a dead end street. Police said they took Witham into custody without incident. Authorities recovered the white object, which they said turned out to be a small-caliber handgun wrapped in a white glove.
Following his arrest, Witham was issued a court summons and released.
