AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating a fight that led to a 33-year-old man being shot in the chest Friday night.

Around 7:45 p.m., officers received a report of shots fired in the area of Baird Street and McKinley Avenue Avenue.

On their way to the scene, officers were flagged down at East Exchange and Beaver streets by a driver who said his passenger had been shot in the chest during a fight that broke out after a crash at the intersection of Baird Street and McKinley Avenue, police said.

The passenger, a 33-year-old man, was transported to Akron City Hospital. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, according to police.

Police said they are working to determine the exact motive and identify the suspect or suspects.
